VERNON â The Town Council voted unanimously last week to extend Town Administrator and Emergency and Risk Management Director Michael Purcaroâs contract for four years. The contract allows for an annual pay raise of zero to 3% based on performance reviews that will be completed by Mayor Daniel Champagne. It does not include any cost of living increase or bonus to Purcaroâs salary, which currently is $139,609. âWhen we hired Mike three years ago we expected him to bring to town government the efficiencies and vision he put in place as the school systemâs finance director,â Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne said. âHe has done that, and has not let up. Mike continues to search for new and better ways to serve our residents, and continues to set high standards for himself, our department heads and all town employees.â ....
WHEN: Spring 2021 Several council members spoke in favor of the RRFBs, with Councilwoman Ann Letendre saying they are âmuch needed,â and Councilman Michael Wendus saying he was glad the council âis finally moving forwardâ with a vote to fund the devices. The devices, which officials say cost about $9,000 each, not including installation, are to be placed at intersections and crossings on West Street, Hartford Turnpike, Dobson Road and Birch Street, Center Road, Phoenix Street and Warren Avenue. Those locations are based on recommendations from Police Chief James Kenny and Capt. John Kelley, who said they evaluated sight lines and accident data at various sites in town before issuing a memo to local officials. ....

The council Tuesday unanimously approved the deal. Purcaro is also Vernon s director of emergency and risk management, a position he has maintained since 2004. Purcaro became Vernon s town administrator in October 2017, moving over from a six-year stint as the director of business and finance for the local public schools system Subscribe The four-year contract focuses on what council members termed performance and results.
