As a result, an incident command center system has been activated under the direction of the Fire Chief Joseph Guarnera, who serves as Athol’s Emergency Management Director. The move allows the town to establish its own COVID-19 vaccination site. Suhoski said the move was made last Thursday morning at a meeting of the Vaccinate Athol (VAX) Task Force. “This allowed us to move to an Incident Command System style of management to respond to this challenge,” said Suhoski. “On Thursday, (Chief Guarnera) assumed incident control with a structured command staff to handle planning, logistics, operations, financial, safety and public outreach efforts in support of our health department. ....

Mindy Domb, D-Amherst, said they been advised that beginning Monday, the region will receive 3,000 additional weekly doses of the vaccine in addition to what was already being allocated. ....
