Dressed in coats, gloves, hats, and Christmas bulb necklaces or Santa caps, volunteers in Armstrong loaded bagged canned goods, fresh produce, and a turkey or ham into the trunks of the cars in line Friday near the end of Armstrong Road. The SEA Community Help Resource Center gathered 35 to 40 volunteers from St. Augustine to Hastings and made Christmas a happy event for nearly 200 families with the Annual Christmas Basket Giveaway. For years, the United Way, Family Worship Center, a variety of local churches, and the Veterans of Coquina Crossing have provided a Christmas dinner on the Monday before Christmas, providing music, groceries to take home, and Santa giving gifts to smiling children. COVID-19 has forced some changes to the program and made the event a drive-through adaptation of the fun and festive event. ....
