Leading plastics processor Spartech LLC has a new majority owner for the second time in less than two years.
An affiliate of private equity firm The Jordan Co. LP has acquired a majority stake in Maryland Heights, Mo.-based Spartech for an undisclosed price. In a May 10 news release, officials with TJC in New York said the acquisition was completed in partnership with Spartech s existing management team.
Private equity firm Nautic Partners of Providence, R.I., will remain a minority shareholder in Spartech. Nautic had been majority owner of the firm since October 2019 in a deal that also involved Spartech management. ....

Major plans for revamp of Burnham's Edithmead M5 roundabout unveiled

Major new plans have been unveiled this week to redesign the motorway roundabout next to Burnham-On-Sea’s M5 junction in a bid to make it safer and reduce congestion.
Somerset County Council displayed the proposals to town councillors for the first time during a virtual meeting of the Town Council’s planning applications committee on Wednesday evening (April 21st).
The improvements are part of the county council’s A38 Major Road Network Scheme, which aims to deliver safety improvements along the busy route.
Burnham’s M5 roundabout at Edithmead will side more lanes, a new ‘through-a-bout’ cutting across the middle of the current roundabout, as shown on the plans below. It aims to improve traffic flows at peak times. ....

Public toilets at Burnham-On-Sea’s Crosses Penn, next to the Manor Gardens, are set to open all year-round following a decision by Town Councillors.
The facilities are currently only open for six months a year, but several local residents have approached town councillors to request increased opening of the toilets.
Cllr Phil Harvey said during the latest council meeting: “A number of members of the public say they wish the toilets would be open for the whole year. I think increased usage is likely because of the new play area, increased numbers of people taking recreational exercise during the pandemic, and the changing climate.” ....

Burnham & Highbridge Town Council votes to go paperless to save money
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council is set to go paperless after councillors last night (Monday) voted in favour of moving into the digital age.
During a virtual meeting of the full council, they voted to buy new tablet PCs for each councillor and use a ‘paperless meetings management system’ to replace paper copies of agendas, minutes and reports.
Town Council Clerk Sam Winter told the meeting: “Electronic systems save many staff hours and many thousands of pounds and it must be the way forward. If we issue devices, everything is readily accessible, it puts everyone on a level playing field. You would all receive the same information at the same time on Town Council managed devices.” ....

New Costa Coffee drive-thru next to Highbridgeâs Aldi store steps closer
Plans to build a new Costa Coffee drive-thru on Highbridge’s Isleport Business Park have moved a step closer to getting a final go-ahead.
Burnham and Highbridge town councillors have approved an application for new Costa illuminated signs to be installed at the site next to Highbridgeâs Aldi store.
At a virtual meeting of the Town Councilâs planning committee, members voiced their support for the proposals, which were first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com. A Subway is also planned next to the drive-thru.
Cllr Andy Brewer added: “They are well co-ordinated plans, and this is all part of the corporate signage. It’s good to see the signs are internally illuminated which means it will reduce the light pollution.” ....
