Norfolk boss: Police should be coronavirus vaccine priority

The boss of Norfolk Police Federation has called for officers to be added to the priority list for coronavirus vaccinations.
Andy Symonds, chairman of the federation, said police had gone over and above in helping people feel safe during the pandemic.

But they do not feature at all on the government s list of eligible groups set to be immunised during the first phase of the vaccination programme.
Around 90 of Norfolk s frontline officers are currently off work for coronavirus-related reasons.
A decision has not yet been announced this week on whether officers will be added to the priority list, despite growing pressure. ....

Police chiefs have insisted officers will be more robust in dealing with breaches of coronavirus restrictions as the country begins another national lockdown.
The latest tough restrictions, announced by prime minister Boris Johnson on Monday night (January 4) came into effect on Wednesday (January 6) in a bid to try and relieve pressure on the NHS amid rising coronavirus figures.

I fully agree with the government in that education should be a national priority, he said. Therefore, to get children back into school without the fear of having to keep closing, all education staff should be moved up the list.
This applies to teachers, teaching assistants, cleaners, administration staff - without any one of those groups, schools cannot operate.
