Neighbours win £2million court fight to stop top architect building 'glowing' glass entrance


Traditionalist neighbours have won a £2million court fight to block a top architect from building a glowing glass entrance to her ultra-modern underground house next to their Victorian homes.
World-renowned architect Sophie Hicks has been left with a £1.3m court bill after losing a six-year-long battle with seven neighbours, sparked when she got planning permission to construct a cutting-edge underground house, featuring a gently glowing glass box at street level in 2015.
The neighbours, spearheaded by pensioner Maria Letemendia, 71, said they wanted to stop the new building next to their flats in a Victorian villa in Holland Park, London, for aesthetic reasons, stating through their lawyers: We do not all want to live next door to the creative and interesting. ....

Northumberland County Council legal claim appeal dismissed


AN appeal over a potential multimillion-pound claim against Northumberland County Council has been dismissed.
The Court of Appeal decision in the case between Leech Homes Ltd and the local authority was issued on February 19, 2021 and follows an Upper Tribunal decision last year.
Coun. Nick Oliver, the cabinet member for corporate services, revealed at the Wednesday, February 24 meeting of the full council that had it been successful, the claim could have resulted in a potential £42million liability.
The case relates to compensation following a compulsory purchase of land at East Lane Farm, owned by Leech Homes Ltd, which was acquired by the council to enable the construction of the Morpeth Northern Bypass. ....
