Senior Day at Fair Hog calling, veterans, ice cream and more Carmen Roberts The Oak Ridger Fun appeared to have been experienced by all who attended this year s Senior Citizens Day on July 14 at the Anderson County Fair in Clinton. The oldest woman in attendance, Lillian Young, and Cecil Haun, a 103-year-old veteran, who was U.S. Gen. George S. Patton s first scout during World War II, stole the show. Lillian is 96-years-young and not only won the Oldest Woman honors, but also sported the Best Decorated Hat and took the title for Best Hog Caller. Lillian held up signs she d brought to the Fair with the words, Pig, Pig, Pig, Pig and Porky Come Here, which caused laughter to erupt throughout the audience. She explained that she had lost her voice. ....
By The Herald Staff The Anderson County Fair returns to a full session this year. Fair association president Kirby Barnes said the fair board can’t wait to bring a full fair back this year after last year’s abbreviated version that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re just glad to bring back the traditional fair with all the bells and whistles,” Barnes said. “We think this is a lineup that’s going to make up for some lost time from last year and we hope people will come out and enjoy it.” The fair runs July 24-31 with 4-H exhibits and events, the traditional midway carnival and a few new events thrown in. ....

Anderson County Fair begins Monday; Best Six Days of Summer You can t keep a good fair down. After being canceled last year because of COVID-19, the Anderson County Fair described as the Best Six Days of Summer begins Monday at the Clinton Fairgrounds at the intersection of Charles Seivers Boulevard and Nave Street. Gates open at 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, July 12-17, and close at 10 p.m. with the exception of Friday and Saturday, when the gates close at 11 p.m., according to the schedule at the fair website, andersoncountyfairtn.com. The costs Admission to the fair is $5 a person or $20 for all week. Children under 6 get into the fair free. Thanks to sponsors, free admission extends to anyone 15 and under Monday through Thursday. If you want to ride the amusement park rides, which start at 6 p.m., you can pay $20 for an armband that lets you ride all the rides all night. ....
