Supported by more than 10 dispatchers at Tuesday s meeting of the Consolidated Communications Partnership, dispatcher Alex Leavitt told the board the dispatchers were issuing “a vote of no confidence in the department s leadership capability, the impartiality and the moral fiber of Deputy Director John Chavez.” ....
Parking ban OK d for Shoaff Road by Cook s Landing DEVAN FILCHAK | The Journal Gazette Parking will soon be more limited by Cook s Landing County Park. The Allen County commissioners approved a request for no-parking signs to be placed on Shoaff Road between 421 E. Shoaff and Coldwater roads for drivers traveling north or south. Allen County Highway Department Director Bill Hartman said the small parking area fills up rapidly on the weekends, and people park along the road. Since there are trees growing adjacent to the road, it creates a safety hazard, he said. Hartman said there have been complaints received about the area near the county park over the last few years. After Commissioner Richard Beck posed a question, Hartman said there haven t been any crashes in the area that he is aware of. ....
Tweets result in suspension JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette A deputy director in the Fort Wayne and Allen County police dispatch center was suspended after his profanity-laced Twitter posts with remarks about Black people were discovered. According to information obtained from the city legal department, John Chavez, 47, one of two deputy directors at the 911 dispatch center, was suspended for five days starting March 23. A photocopied packet of Chavez s tweets that included profanity and comments about race last year were obtained by The Journal Gazette. Chavez tweeted under the name of @Mr PBandit. In one post, he added a photo of himself that linked him visually to the account. ....
