Another mega development is advancing in Manatee County, this one proposing 7,200 homes in a rural area near Parrish outside the urban service boundary, presenting another test of whether a line meant to constrain growth – which Lakewood Ranch also wants moved – will stand.
The Manatee County Planning Commission this month recommended forging ahead with a proposed amendment to the county’s long-range growth plan that would allow L3 Partnership LLC to proceed with the company’s Gamble Creek Village development on 5,000 acres. The land is owned by the Lindsay family and is just south of State Road 62, about two miles east of an urban service boundary meant to rein in urban sprawl.

MANATEE COUNTY, FL A complaint filed with the Florida Commission on Ethics targets Manatee County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh for her role in a pop-up vaccine clinic held Feb. 17-19 in Lakewood Ranch for residents of two of the county s wealthiest ZIP codes.
Baugh, the representative of District 5, which includes Lakewood Ranch, selected the ZIP codes for the state-run event, and also created a VIP list of five people to receive the vaccine at the event and told the county s Public Safety Director, Jacob Sauer, to add their names to the list of those being vaccinated at the pop-up clinic. The list included Baugh and Lakewood Ranch president and CEO Rex Jensen, though Baugh didn t receive the vaccine.

Manatee County Commissioners voted 6-1 to execute a separation agreement with Administrator Cheri Coryea on Tuesday, paving the way for a search for a new administrator.
Commissioner Reggie Bellamy earlier had made a motion to keep Coryea for at least a year to prove she can move the county forward but that motion was denied 4-3.
