(Photo Courtesy: Tennessee Department of Agriculture) The news release says the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Kord Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory received its first samples last October. The laboratory helps track CWD, a disease that effects deer and other cervids, and has been found in West Tennessee. “A dozen counties in West Tennessee are CWD positive or high risk,” said Commissioner Charlie Hatcher. “Kord Lab’s CWD unit produces valuable information to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, captive herd owners, and to hunters. This unit also supports the One Health initiative for greater understanding of health connections among people, animals, and plants.” ....
[email protected] MARSHALL Â Lyon County commissioners said a state program that manages community service work for low-risk offenders has had benefits for the county in the past but over the last two years, they weren’t sure they were getting a good value from the program. Instead of approving a new two-year contract for the Sentenced to Service program, commissioners said Tuesday that they would form a group to possibly negotiate a different agreement with the Minnesota Department of Corrections. The county’s current Sentenced to Service contract expires at the end of June. In the Sentenced to Service program, low-risk offenders perform community service work under a crew leader provided by the state. Under the proposed contract brought before county commissioners, a crew leader would supervise up to 10 offenders each for about 40 hours a week. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission offers discounted fishing licenses Updated Mar 17, 2021; Non-resident college students in Pennsylvania can buy a Pennsylvania fishing license for less than half the price of a regular non-resident license. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission recently announced the availability of a new, discounted fishing license for non-resident students attending accredited institutions of higher education in Pennsylvania. At a price of $22.97, which is the same as an annual resident fishing license, the license can save eligible students $30 over the cost of an annual non-resident license ($52.97). “For years now, we have been hearing from young anglers who live and work in Pennsylvania for 4 or more years while attending college that the price of a non-resident license was an impediment to getting out on the water,” said Commissioner Charlie Charlesworth. “By offering this discounted license to eligible students, we’re no ....
