On Tuesday, Houston police said Jones attempted to use a fake driver’s license bearing the name “Eva Sorrentino” to buy a vehicle valued at close to $80,000 from a local dealership. That information led police to another dealership where they arrested Jones after they said she attempted to buy another vehicle using the same name. ....

Investigators with Houston Police Department Auto Theft Division said catalytic converter thefts have increased by 300%, compared with last year. Thieves are after catalytic converters because they contain precious metals that can be sold at a higher price. With the right knowledge, thieves can actually remove the converters from vehicles in less than two minutes, investigators said. Six models of vehicles are often targeted, including Toyota Tundra, Toyota Prius and Toyota Tacoma, Ford F-250, Honda Element and Honda CR-V. Some vehicles may also have up to four converters. ....
Man accused of fraudulently buying at least 19 cars from dealerships in Houston, police say Tags: HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for a 61-year-old man who is accused of fraudulently buying more than a dozen vehicles in Houston and Pennsylvania. Houston police said Jorge Lamarche has gone through a lot of trouble to cover his tracks. Lamarche is accused of using nine different aliases to fraudulently buy several high-end, luxury vehicles in at least two states. “There are 15 dealerships involved, 19 vehicles, 1.3 million dollars, and five different police agencies are involved in this investigation,” said Sgt. D. Schlosser with HPD’s Auto Theft Division. ....
