Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, one of President Donald Trump’s original Cabinet members, resigned on Thursday evening after the president incited a mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6.
The resignation, effective Friday, brings an end to one of the most contentious periods in recent Education Department (ED) history.
Beyond the ED being sued 455 times during her tenure the most in any administration since ED became a Cabinet-level agency in 1980 what is Devos’ legacy?
“I don t think there s going to be much of a legacy once the Biden folks get to work,” Michael Petrilli, a former ED official and current head of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, a right-leaning think tank, told Yahoo Finance. “The things that they did via guidance or regulation are going to be undone pretty quickly.” ....

This is in reference to guest columnist Angela Sailor and Adam Kissel’s piece titled “Bill of Rights Day: we keep our freedoms by teaching them.” The article was fantastic and coincides with our opinions, as we have observed this same lack of knowledge with our grandchildren.
The problem we saw was that the authors left out a fantastic resource: Hillsdale College, located in Hillsdale, Minnesota. It is the only college we are aware of that does not accept any kind of government support, including tuition assistance.
I would suggest checking out Hillsdale College, which has for many years provided free online classes covering many subjects, including civil rights in American history; introduction to American ethics; Congress: how it worked and why it doesn t; Western heritage: from the book of Genesis to John; public policy from a constitutional viewpoint; and economics ....

The articles (all labeled as news, not opinion) claimed that to encourage this was somehow the same as forming a deep state organized to fight Biden tooth and nail. As MSNBC put it, “The Republican president and many of his conspiratorial allies have railed against a nefarious force they describe as the “deep state”…it’s against this backdrop that Betsy DeVos, out loud, told a group of executive branch officials to “be the resistance” following Joe Biden’s inauguration which sounds quite a bit like an ironic call for some kind of “deep state,” as defined by Team Trump.” ....

Did you know Tuesday was “Bill of Rights Day”? If the answer is no, you’re not alone. Most Americans are barely aware of it.
Sadly, that’s not surprising. Most of us would fail the U.S. citizenship exam. Few can name more than one or two First Amendment rights or more than a few rights in the entire first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution. That is a serious problem, especially at a time when lawsuits nationwide ask judges to reform criminal justice or to stop states from discriminating against religious gatherings. ....

DID YOU know that Dec. 15 is âBill of Rights Dayâ? If the answer is no, youâre not alone. Most Americans are barely aware of it.
