(Robert Doublett/CBC) A suspended Cape Breton Regional Police officer has been found guilty of two counts of domestic assault involving his former wife. Const. Kristopher Karl Planetta was charged in October 2018 after complaints were made by the woman. According to court documents, the couple has since separated. In a decision released Friday, Judge Peter Ross found that stresses of work and child care undoubtedly contributed to the couples troubles. Woman testified about assaults During the trial, the woman testified that Planetta grabbed her arms and pulled her backward onto the floor in 2017 following an argument over a crying child. ....

(CBC) Cape Breton Regional Police say two teenagers were injured after a dirt bike collided with a car along a busy urban thoroughfare. The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, near the intersection of Wesley Street and Victoria Road in the Whitney Pier neighbourhood of Sydney. Police say two youths ages 17 and 14 were transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to their legs. The driver of the car was uninjured. Police spokesperson Desiree Magnus said it is unclear whether the dirt bike carrying the teens was permitted on the road. ....

Protesters kept out of school About 30 students took part in the protest, while others hung around and waited for their lunch break to end. At least nine officers had their backs to the entrance, keeping the protesters out of the school. Magnus said police needed to create a barrier because they weren t sure initially what the students intended to do. We didn t know that when we were first called. We were just called to a large crowd with some agitated activity outside the school and just with that size of crowd and the emotions, it s unpredictable what can happen.
