Utah’s first cannabis home deliveries roll up to patient homes

Utah’s first medical cannabis couriers have started hand-delivering orders to the homes of patients, a promising development for people who face daunting drives to the nearest marijuana pharmacy.
The service is starting small at first. WholesomeCo, the company that is trailblazing cannabis home delivery in Utah, has hired 10 couriers that can cover Salt Lake, Utah, Tooele, Weber, Cache, Summit and Wasatch counties.
But Chris Jeffery, WholesomeCo’s chief executive officer, says his goal is to go statewide within six months so that patients who are medically fragile or who live long distances from the nearest pharmacy have a better option for getting their cannabis treatment. ....

SALT LAKE CITY â The new year brings updates to Utah s medical marijuana system.
Beginning Friday, people in Utah will no longer be able to go out of state to buy marijuana product, which is already illegal under federal law.
Medical marijuana patients will need also need a card from the Utah Department of Health. The âaffirmative defenseâ letters from doctors, which recommend cannabis for medical purposes, will no longer suffice.
The Utah Patients Coalition says about 60 to 70 percent of Utah s medical marijuana patients have acquired the new cards. Those without the required cards may have had trouble buying medical marijuana products Friday morning. ....

SALT LAKE CITY Legislators are again eyeing changes to Utah’s medical marijuana law, including enabling any doctor to recommend the medication to up to 15 patients.
“The concept there is twofold. One on the patient’s side: It would allow the patient to stay closer to home, maybe with their own physician . and the physician, if they don’t feel they have the expertise to do the dosing guidelines, they can work with the pharmacist and the cannabis pharmacy,” said Sen. Evan Vickers, R-Cedar City.
The move could address one of the biggest bottlenecks so far with the program, according to advocates. ....
