Every spring, the Baylor Family bids happy retirement to professors and staff who have dedicated their professional lives to the university and its students. It’s always a bittersweet mix sadness in seeing them go, happiness for a well-deserved next step but we wish them all well in the next phase of their lives.
Here, we honor some of the longest-serving and most recognizable professors who are moving on this year men and women whose faces will be missed, but whose impact will not be forgotten:
Dr. James Curry was recently recognized by both the Texas House and Senate for his 47 years of service to Baylor, including 14 as chair of Baylor’s political science department. The longtime director of the Bob Bullock Scholars Program and the Baylor Washington Internship Program, Curry has helped countless students find internships with members of the Texas Legislature and in our nation’s capital. Spring sports to compete in-person

Following the Midwest Conference’s (MWC) announcement regarding the resumption of spring sports, the Lawrence Vikings will compete in baseball, softball and track and field in the spring sports’ season, while men’s and women’s tennis will not compete this season due to many student-athletes being away from campus. 
According to MWC’s announcement on Feb. 19, competitions will be resumed in the upcoming months while monitoring the COVID-19 environment on MWC campuses, local communities and at the regional and national levels. Member institutions, based upon campus and local realities of the pandemic, retain ultimate authority over the decision to participate in intercollegiate athletics this spring.  ....

University faculty members’ achievements lauded

Meet the recipients of this year’s Faculty Senate awards.
Each year the Faculty Senate recognizes three members of the faculty community who represent exemplary teaching, service, and scholarly work. Nominated and selected by their peers based on significant contributions to the University of Miami, the award recipients are honored during the annual ceremony, which is scheduled for Monday, April 12, at 5 p.m.
Among the award recipients including the Outstanding Teaching Award, the James W. McLamore Outstanding Service Award, and the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award that are being presented to Meryl I. Cohen, Marvin P. Dawkins, and Michelle Wachs Galloway, respectively the senate also will recognize J. Tomás Lopez, professor of art in the College of Arts and Sciences, for his long-term service for the faculty through the Faculty Senate. ....
