(This story was first published in The Times Of India on April 18, 2021) Ayodhya: Amidst a lethal Covid run in Uttar Pradesh coupled with fervent appeals by senior Ayodhya seers, the district administration on Saturday decided to call off the April 21 ‘ Ram Navami Mela’, which witnesses a mammoth gathering of pilgrims on the last day of Navratra at Ramjanmabhoomi and Saryu banks. Ayodhya’s borders will be sealed and nobody, including seers from Haridwar kumbh will be allowed entry. The fear of a pandemic spread was compounded by the surge in Covid cases at the Haridwar kumbh, where hundreds of seers were scheduled to come to Ayodhya to offer prayers at Ramjanmabhoomi on the last day of Navratra. The district administration directed devotees to celebrate Ram Navami at home and curtailed pilgrim presence at temples. ....

The proposed university will hold studies and carry out research on culture, beliefs, scriptures and religious facts related to Lord Ram. According to Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the higher education portfolio, the university will enable world to know about the life and principles of Lord Ram. It will also include studies on the Hindu religion and culture. ....

Ram Lalla Idol Provided with Blankets and Heater as Winter Chill Intensifies in Ayodhya FOLLOW US ON: As temperatures drop in Uttar Pradesh and winter chill intensifies, the Ram Lalla idol and those of the deity s brothers in a makeshift temple in Ayodhya have been provided blankets and a blower to keep them warm. This is the second time since the Babri Mosque demolition in 1992 that such an arrangement has been made. Last year, similar arrangements were made after the local Hindu religious leaders, along with some Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members, had made a request to the Ayodhya Commissioner. ....
