Falmouth Considering Hiring More Firefighters

While the town continues to discuss whether to provide fire and rescue services from five or six stations, it wants to hire more firefighters to keep the current stations open and operational, even after the Sandwich Road station is built.
Falmouth Select Board, at its meeting on Monday, May 10, directed Town Manager Julian M. Suso to develop a staffing model and bring it back to the board that would keep all stations open, including the West Falmouth location. Since last July, the station has only been staffed when firefighters volunteer for overtime to man it.
âI suggest starting now to build that financial package to hire more to keep West Falmouth open even after the new Sandwich Road station is open,â select board member Douglas H. Jones said. ....

With a few minor wording and word placement changes, members of the Falmouth School Committee and the Falmouth Select Board voted to approve the job description for a new diversity, equity, and inclusion officer position at a joint meeting on Tuesday night.
This position was approved and funded at an annual salary of $85,000 at Annual Town Meeting in June last year, followed by months of discussion with, and feedback from, the Townâs Affirmative Action/Diversity Committee and members of the Falmouth community.

Speed, jake braking cited as problems on Woods Hole Road

FALMOUTH The Select Board on Monday authorized a letter to be sent to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation asking for assistance on speeding and the weight of trucks traveling along Woods Hole Road.
“The volumes of traffic on Woods Hole Road continue to expand,” Town Manager Julian Suso wrote in the letter on behalf of the Select Board. “The number of trucks carrying significant loads and expanding vehicle speeds are extremely concerning, all contributing to challenging public safety issues.”

Year-Round Water Restrictions In The Works For Falmouth

Trying to avoid water restrictions akin to last summerâs automatic sprinkler ban, the Falmouth Department of Public Works is proposing to limit residents to using sprinklers a few days a week.
If supported by the select board, the plan would allow homeowners and landscapers to water their lawns on a schedule based based their house numbers. It would be in effect year-round.
Under the proposal, odd-numbered homes would be permitted use automatic sprinklers on their property on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and even-numbered homes are to use sprinklers Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Watering would only be allowed between 8 PM and 8 AM each day and no one would be allowed to use sprinklers on Mondays, Falmouth Water Superintendent Cathal OâBrien said. ....
