Celebrating a 95th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic can become a major family dilemma. Last year when Anastasia Island resident Dorothy Miller turned 94 on April 18, her family and friends staged a drive-through celebration around her neighborhood. But turning 95 is the real milestone. “Let’s go camping,” one family member suggested, and that triggered a lot of conversations among family members with Dorothy making the decision to “hit the road” and head to the campgrounds at Georgia Veteran’s Memorial State Park. Family members joining the camping celebration included her children, sons Brad, Randy, Danny and daughter Jody. Son David and his wife Peyton from Houston, Texas, joined them. ....

Life has taken unexpected turns for new St. Augustine Beach Police Chief Daniel Carswell. Born and raised in Jacksonville Beach, he spent several years as a lifeguard in the city and planned to join the police department there. But the department wanted him to have previous experience as an officer. So he moved to St. Johns County and started working at the St. Augustine Beach Police Department in 2006. He planned to work a few years and return to Jacksonville Beach. St. Augustine Beach is where his plans changed. I just fell in love with it out here, he said. I fell in love with the people here, the department, everything about it. And you couldn t force me to go anywhere else now. ....
St. Augustine Beach elects Mayor, Vice Mayor and Commissioners Communications and Events Coordinator Melinda Conlon reported to Historic City News that at the City Commission Meeting on Monday, January 4, 2021, the City of St. Augustine Beach elected its Mayor, Vice Mayor and installed two Commissioners. Margaret England who has served as Mayor for the last year, was elected to serve for another year. “I am humbled and honored to serve another year as Mayor of St Augustine Beach with such a great team of Commissioners, professional staff, and interested, engaged residents,” England said. Don Samora who has served on the Commission for three years, was elected as Vice Mayor and remarked that he is honored to serve the St. Augustine Beach Community. He says he is looking forward to serving his 4th year as Vice Mayor. ....
