Just a day after a fire devastated its main Elm Street office, the Elizabeth Fry Society in Sudbury has relocated to the Centre de Santé on Frood Road.

Oshawa Fire Services getting financial support from province

Oshawa Fire Services is getting some financial support from the province as it continues to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
MPP Lindsey Park and MPP David Piccini announced recently the government is investing $81,000 to help local fire services. The funding will to enhance fire safety training and support safety inspection programs to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code.
Oshawa Fire Services received $43,900, while Clarington Emergency and Fire Services received $27,200, and Scugog Fire and Emergency Services received $9,900. ....

Toronto's city manager fires back at TDSB over $90-million fire suit

Toronto’s city manager has fired back at the Toronto District School Board for filing a $90-million lawsuit against the city’s fire department, police services and the Ontario Fire Marshal.
City manager Chris Murray sent the letter to Karen Falconer, the interim director of education of the Toronto District School Board, a day after the suit was filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

“I am writing in relation to the Toronto District School Board’s lawsuit concerning the fires at the York Memorial Collegiate. I am compelled to express my extreme disappointment in the baseless and irresponsible allegations made against Fire Chief Matthew Pegg,” Murray says in the letter. ....

Fire Department Funding Announced

The Ontario Government is investing $64,100 to help Fire Services in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, MPP Monte McNaughton announced this week. The funding will enhance fire safety training and support safety inspection programs to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code. Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says “I am proud that our Government is continuing to support the men and women who volunteer and serve at our local fire stations. This investment will boost fire safety in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex with the technology and equipment needed to support training and fire inspections at these unprecedented times.”
The funding is part of a $5 million provincial investment to help municipal fire services respond to the local impacts of COVID-19 which created new risks and challenges for fire departments to conduct training and fire safety inspections. This one-time funding will enhance in-person and online ....

City Hires New Fire Chief


The City of Kenora has hired Kent Readman as its next fire chief.
He replaces Todd Skene who retires in June.
Readman comes from the Dryden Fire Service where he is the Fire Chief and Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the Dryden Fire Service.
Readman has served his profession in the capacity of Volunteer Firefighter, Captain, Training Officer, Director of Emergency Services, Health and Safety Coordinator, Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief.
He is an Adjunct Instructor with the Ontario Fire College.
“I am really looking forward to joining the team in Kenora. The City has progressive and supportive leadership and the City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Service is a highly dedicated group committed to protecting the residents and visitors of the city. The fire service in north western Ontario is a close-knit community and I’m excited to continue to be a part of that” stated Chief Readman. ....
