DVIDS - News - Marine Aircraft Group 36 Proves They Are Ready to Respond at a Moment's Notice During No-Notice Drill

OKINAWA, Japan – As hundreds of Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 36 and Marine Air Control Group 18 staged in the early hours of Friday morning with all the equipment to sustain operations for a short period of time, leaders and planners observed the culmination of 48 hours of tireless execution. During the previous two days multiple squadrons from across 1st Marine Aircraft Wing scrambled to plan and respond to a no-notice drill designed to surprise and test their ability to respond at a moment’s notice to any contingency.
Marines with 1st MAW conducted this Alert Contingency Marine Air-Ground Taskforce (ACM) drill from May 19 to May 21 in order to maintain readiness as the III Marine Expeditionary Force’s Air Combat Element of the ACM in the Indo-Pacific. ....

During GQ, San Antonio conducted several training scenarios involving various damage control and medical training evolutions that helped prepare the Sailors aboard for real-life casualties.
“Preparing for real situations utilizing drills such as this is vital to the mission readiness and success of our ship,” said Capt. Robert Bibeau, commanding officer, USS San Antonio. “I am confident in our team’s response to what we drilled today.”
The combined IWOARG and 24th MEU have roughly 4,300 Sailors and Marines. The ARG-MEU is deployed to SIXTHFLT in support of regional NATO Allies and partners as well as U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa. ....

NAVSUP, mission partners enhance crewmembers' morale, mission capability during USS Iwo Jima's maintenance period in Spain > United States Navy > News-Stories

As the LMP was taking place, IWOARG’s crewmembers accessed quality-of-life amenities during their liberty period. MWR placed recreational tents at the installation softball field and provided tables and chairs for use by the IWOARG crew. The Navy Exchange (NEX) and NAVSTA’s Commissary offered exclusive use of the stores to IWOARG crewmembers. FLCSI Site Rota’s contracting team ensured all ship contracting requirements and last minute details were managed leading up to the IWOARG’s LMP.
“Contracts were awarded to procure Wi-Fi services for 3,000 personnel at pier 1 and the softball field and transportation vehicles for crewmembers,” said Jose Neto, FLCSI Site Rota supervisory contracting specialist. “Contracts for tug vehicles, and man-lift equipment were also awarded in support of ship repairs.” ....

USS Carter Hall arrives in Lisbon, Portugal

LISBON, Portugal
The Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), operating as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Readiness Group (IWOARG), arrived in Lisbon, Portugal for a maintenance and logistics stop, April 30.
After Carter Hallâs departure, April 26, from Her Majestyâs Naval Base Devonport, Carter the ship continued its deployment in the Atlantic Ocean with the IWOARG.
âWe are excited to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Portuguese Marines with Portugal,â said Cmdr. LaDonna Simpson, Carter Hallâs commanding officer. âWe look forward to working with the Portuguese Navy and Marines during CONTEX-PHIBEX. Our continued participation in multilateral exercises with allies and partners strengthens our commitments and improves our interoperability.â ....
