Surat: Bharuch-based Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers and Chemicals (GNFC) has started production and supply of medical grade oxygen to cater to the rising demand of oxygen among Covid patients. In a release, the state government-owned company said that it started production immediately after resuming its planned annual shutdown earlier this month. GNFC will be producing 10,000 litres of medical grade oxygen daily which will be equivalent to 1,000 cylinders in a day. The company is also planning to ramp up the production capacity to double it and will be supplying the oxygen free of charge. GNFC even modified its operations related to Air Separation Unit to address the issue of medical oxygen demand. ....

An international integrated chemicals and energy company, Sasol’s core business is leveraging technologies and the expertise of its people to build and operate world-scale facilities to produce a range of high-value product streams, including liquid fuels, chemicals and low-carbon electricity. The company’s largest operations are in South Africa specifically Secunda in Mpumalanga and Sasolburg in the Free State. As communicated to the market, Sasol has set a greenhouse gas (GHG) target for our South African operations to reduce emissions by at least 10%, off a 2017 baseline, by 2030. The introduction of renewable energy will be a significant contributor to our decarbonisation efforts. ....

The chemical and energy firm - which has plants in Sasolburg and Secunda - has been singled out by environmental groups as one of the country s largest greenhouse gas emitters. Faced with pressure to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, Sasol has opened invitations for 900 MW of renewable energy to service its local operations. The company, together with Air Liquide - which operates the Secunda oxygen plants it acquired from Sasol in 2020 - said the development would be the largest renewable energy procurement deal from the private sector in the country, and highlights the value of partnerships on such projects. ....
