Thailand is seeing a record number of new daily coronavirus infections, apparently driven by cases emerging in jails around the country.
The Southeast Asian country on Monday reported 9,635 new coronavirus cases the highest number of new infections since the pandemic began, according to Thailand s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). 
Of those cases, 6,853 were found in eight prisons and detention facilities across the country, the CCSA said.  ....

BANGKOK Thailand hit a new daily record with the discovery of nearly 10,000 new COVID-19 cases on Monday after massive infections were found in the prison system, official data showed.

Bangkok, May 17 (EFE).- A resurgence of Covid-19 cases in Singapore has prompted officials to delay the planned air corridor between the city-state and Hong Kong later this month, the transport ministry said Monday.
The so-called ‘travel bubble’ was due to be launched on 26 May.
“Both sides remain strongly committed to launching the ATB (Air Travel Bubble) safely. However, in light of the recent increase in unlinked community cases, Singapore is unable to meet the criteria to start the Singapore-Hong Kong ATB,” a ministry statement said.
“Both sides therefore agreed to defer the launch of the ATB to protect the health of travelers and the public in these two places.” ....

A much anticipated travel bubble between Hong Kong and Singapore has been delayed for a second time amid a rise of Covid-19 cases in Singapore. 
The travel bubble was due to launch on May 26 and would have allowed quarantine-free travel between the two cities. It has
now been delayed till June 13 at least, when Singapore’s current pandemic measures will end. 
“In view of the recent COVID-19 epidemic situation in Singapore, the Governments of the HKSAR and Singapore have decided to defer the target date of the inaugural flights under the bilateral Air Travel Bubble (ATB),” a press release from the Hong Kong government explained Monday. ....

HONG KONG, May 17 (Xinhua) The government of China s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said on Monday that the HKSAR and Singapore have decided to defer the inaugural flights under the bilateral Air Travel Bubble (ATB) scheduled for May 26 due to an escalating COVID-19 epidemic in Singapore.
A government spokesman said that the two sides will continue to closely monitor the epidemic situation in both places and will unveil further arrangements on or before June 13.
Under the ATB, travelers from the two sides, who have tested negative for COVID-19, are exempted from mandatory quarantine and Hong Kong travelers must be fully vaccinated 14 days before their departure. ....
