Kathmandu, Feb 4 : A general strike called by the Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda -led faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Thursday has led to the disruption of normal life across the Himalayan country.
Vehicular movement on the roads have been halted, education institutions were closed and onlt a very few shops were open.
The ruling NCP fell apart after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives on December 20, 2020 and the Prachanda-led faction has been agitating since. ....

Kathmandu, Jan. 23 Nepali Congress is not in government in even one of the seven provinces. Such was the hammering the party got in the 2017 elections. But now with the Nepal Communist Party vertically split, it has a chance to join a provincial government and even lead.
The opportunity, however, has brought further confusion within the Nepali Congress and put it in a dilemma.
The party is already divided in its response to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and hold snap polls on April 30 and May 10 with one section believing that it must oppose the dissolution and another section maintaining that it should wait for the Supreme Court s decision on the constitutionality of the dissolution. ....

Kathmandu, Jan. 1 Two days after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli s Cabinet recommended the dissolution of the House of Representatives, his Nepal Communist Party, through a decision of its Central Committee, in which the opposition faction has a majority, took disciplinary action against him.
Then the faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, through the party s Central Committee, nominated Nepal as chair, replacing Oli.
