Anaheim Council to Discuss Whether Stadium Sale Violated State Law

Anaheim Council to Discuss Whether Stadium Sale Violated State Law
City council in Anaheim, Calif. will probe bureaucrats on the sale of Angel Stadium following accusations the transaction violated state law.
Council is expected to ask staff questions July 20 regarding the Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) April 28 letter to the city, alleging a surplus land act (SLA) violation in the Angel Stadium deal.
“In my opinion, there were lost opportunities in the approved deal that would have benefited our city’s financial interest,” Councilmember Avelino Valencia said during a July 13 meeting.
“Now, to add insult to injury, our residents the taxpayers may have to possibly pay a fine of tens of millions of dollars due to poor decision making and this handling.” ....

Anaheim Moves Forward with Hero Pay Ordinance
The measure would provide such workers with a $3 per hour pay boost for 60 days.
Councilmember Jose Moreno initiated the “hero pay” ordinance, also known as hazard pay, with support from councilmembers Jordan Brandman and Avelino Valencia.
“We know there’s a tsunami of economic hardship coming their way,” Moreno said.
“Many of them have had to defer their rents, have had to defer credit card bills, car payments, forbearance on mortgages … That’s why this is important to still consider in a temporary and modest way so that our city can avoid an economic catastrophe by our workers who stepped up for us over the last 14 months.” ....
