Former asylum seeker languishes in notorious Papua New Guinea prison

A former asylum seeker from Bangladesh continues to languish inside a notorious Papua New Guinea prison after yet another hurdle in his eight-year quest for freedom.
Helal “Spicy” Uddin is fighting Papua New Guinea’s immigration department for the right to return to Manus Island, so he can be with his wife and young son.
He has been detained in Bomana prison, near the capital Port Moresby, while his case works its way through Papua New Guinea’s legal system.
National Court Judge David Canning ruled in April 2020 that Uddin should be granted residency in Papua New Guinea for three years. ....

Balochistan sets up judicial commission to probe Usman Kakar's death

The Balochistan government has set up a two-member judicial commission to investigate the death of former senator and provincial president of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Usman Khan Kakar, a private TV channel reported on Thursday.
The two-member commission will be headed by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan while Justice Zaheeruddin Kakar will be a member of the commission.
Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader and former senator Usman Khan Kakar had passed away in Karachi on June 21. He was critically injured after he fell in his house, leading to severe head injury. He was later shifted to a hospital in Karachi via an air ambulance after head surgery in Quetta. ....

Nation celebrates Eid today


Delay in announcement creates confusion among public

The country is celebrating Eidul Fitr on Thursday with religious zeal and fervour amidst Covid-19 measures.
Eid prayers were held in open spaces across the country with the implementation of Covid-19 SOPs to avoid the spread of the pandemic. 
Special prayers were offered on the occasion for the well being of the country along with prayers for the Muslims of Palestine and Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In a late-night announcement on Wednesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which met in Islamabad, declared Eidul Fitr would be celebrated across the country on today as the Shawwal moon had been sighted. ....
