Battling through this current COVID-19 environment, Mike Sands, the Bahamian president of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) said it is their intention to facilitate the advancement of athletics in this region as best as possible, moving forward with established plans and athletic competitions this year.
The CARIFTA Games is now set for the latest it has ever been held in a calendar year – August 13-15 at the Bermuda National Sports Centre in Hamilton, Bermuda. The NACAC Under-18 (U18) and Under-23 (U23) Championships is still on the table, tentatively set for July 9-11, at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada. Both are high on the priority list for NACAC, but the ever-present nature of COVID-19 leads to uncertainty in the staging of the two meets. ....

I am totally convinced that when the political history of The Bahamas is objectively told, this Minnis led FNM administration will emerge as the singular most corrupt government administration of the party era.
The historical irony of the FNM is that it’s formation came amidst the dismissal of PLP ministers in connection with the scandal surrounding the lobbying and alleged bribery for the granting of a casino license up in Freeport.
This was followed by a bombing, a murder and multiple accounts of violent acts of voter intimidation in the run up to the 1972 general elections. All of these incidents were connected to the political activities and operatives of the FNM, even as they sought to brand the PLP as corrupt. ....

Two craters act as a token reminder of bomb incident


On Friday September 1 1939, many months of uncertainty in European capitals concerning German intentions towards Poland were made clear when elements of the German armed forces advanced eastwards into Poland along a wide front in a surprise attack utilising the new tactic of Blitzkreig/Lighting War.
Britain and France, which had guaranteed to come to Poland s aid in the event of being attacked by Germany, demanded that Germany should withdraw immediately. When Germany ignored the British protest note which demanded that it cease military activity and withdraw its troops from Poland by 11 a.m. Sunday September 3rd 1939 or otherwise a state of war would exist between them, at 11.15 a.m. that morning British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain broadcast to the British people over the BBC informing them that the Germany had not replied to or acted on the British protest note and concluded his broadcast with the declaration:- that consequently this county is at war with Germany. ....
