Waldo County Technical Center's CNA program visits LifeFlight of Maine

Waldo County Technical Center’s (WCTC) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students had the opportunity to intern in various departments at Waldo County General Hospital, in Belfast, this school year as part of clinical rotations to complete their CNA certification.  
Many of the students were intrigued by the Emergency Room department, so CNA program instructor Frannie Conlon arranged for them to visit the LifeFlight of Maine facility at Bangor International Airport. Students were able to get a glimpse of an emergency medical service where critical thinking on your feet is a must. They were able to see the emergency jet and helicopter arr ....

Local health leaders discuss vaccine access, hesitancy for minorities, broader community


TUPELO • As medical director for the NMMC-Tupelo Emergency Room Department, Dr. Val Serio witnessed the impact of COVID-19 firsthand.
As part of the COVID safety huddle, held daily or biweekly depending on patient surges and led by North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS) chief medical officer Dr. Jeremy Blanchard, Serio reported the daily or biweekly COVID-suspected patients coming through the emergency room, resources, planning for future surges and working with their physicians, nurses and physicians assistants to ensure they understood CDC guidelines with the changing medication regimens.
He remembers receiving the vaccine the first day it became available at the North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC). ....

St. Martin News Network - SMMC begins second round of COVID-19 vaccinations.

CAY HILL: - On Monday, March 15th, the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) began the second round of its COVID-19 vaccination drive. The drive, which includes staff from SMMC, the Ambulance Department, CPS, St. Maarten Laboratory Services (SLS), and Cay Hill Pharmacy, aims to vaccinate healthcare workers to reduce the risk of severe COVID-19, safeguarding and ensuring the continuity of care within the hospital and at other healthcare institutions.
SMMC began vaccinations on Monday, February 22nd, and has vaccinated approximately 480 persons to date, with more registering every day. SMMC is also proud to announce that a number of departments within the hospital, including the Medical Specialists, Emergency Room Department, and the Operating Room have a 90% or higher vaccination rate. Among the staff vaccinated, only mild side-effects were observed such as soreness at the injection site and fatigue, which typically subsided in 24 hours. ....
