Linda Dickirson, member of the City of Ripley Beautification Committee, presented a preliminary plan to the city council at its May 18 meeting. Additions proposed were a wrought iron fence with gate opening, benches, landscaping and brick walkways. Currently, the lot is empty with no landscaping. In the past it’s been used for Santa’s workshop and formerly was the location of an events sign. Rod Parsons donated the area to the city in 2015. ....

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners honored 14 volunteers one for each district and one senior volunteer of the year April 29. In a video highlighting the accomplishments of each volunteer, Board Chair Don Brown said it was difficult to identify just one individual in each district this year. “Our volunteers are always stepping up in unique ways,” he said. “It is an honor to share their stories as a means to recognize their good deeds and to inspire others.” ....
