Anti-hunger initiative aims to lift 1M Filipinos out of hunger by 2022

Close to 70 groups from the private sector have partnered with the government s Task Force Zero Hunger (TFZH) to launch Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG), a multi-sectoral movement with the goal to lift one million Filipinos from hunger by next year.
The anti-hunger initiative s 2021 work plan was outlined during a virtual media launch on Monday.
Key areas of concern include farmer assistance, sustainable nutrition programs, disaster response, and food banking.
This is the principle of the PKG movement solving the problem of hunger must be a collective responsibility and an imperative for all of us, said Cabinet Secretary and TFZH head Karlo Nograles. ....

This case study is one of three, which form the basis for a global report commissioned by the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC) and the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Secretariat (SMS) to capture experiences from crisis-affected states (CAS) and suggest practical options to strengthen the Humanitarian-Development Nexus (HDN) for greater nutrition outcomes. The focus: The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Strategy 2021–2025 (SUN 3.0) prioritises country leadership and focuses on supporting systemic change at the country level. It seeks to capture the ambition of SUN countries and guide the work of all actors at all levels – national and subnational, regional and global – aligning concerted action behind and responding to commonly agreed national priorities set out by governments in SUN countries. As part of these efforts, SUN 3.0 aims to contribute towards achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
SUN 3.0 is committed to fundamental, non-negotiable aspects of effective nutrition action, including equity and the principle of leaving no one behind. For its third phase, the SUN Movement will drive forward gender equality and enshrine youth leadership across the Movement. ....

At the first N4G Summit in 2013, 110 stakeholders committed to prevent at least 20 million children from being stunted – saving at least 1.7 million lives by 2020. These commitments deliver much-needed action on policy and financing commitments to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 Ending Hunger in All its Forms which is an underlying driver of 12 of the 17 SDGs. COVID-19 and Nutrition: Crisis and Opportunity

Shawn Baker is the Chief Nutritionist for the US Agency for International Development (USAID). In this position, he chairs the Agency’s Nutrition Leadership Council, oversees the vision and strategy of the Agency’s Center for Nutrition in the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, and coordinates related efforts across USAID. He also guides USAID’s investments and engagement with partners to address malnutrition in developing countries. Mr. Baker has more than 40 years of experience in public health, nutrition, and food security. He joined USAID from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he was the first Director of Nutrition, and led a strategic refresh that resulted in a 140-percent increase in the Foundation’s investments. He served as Vice President and Regional Director for Africa of Helen Keller International for 19 years and as Country Director for Bangladesh.
