Northern Ireland protocol should be implemented 'sensitively', says Taoiseach


“I do agree that we need to have very practical solutions and I think we need to be creative about it and understand also that . on one level the threat to the single market perhaps isn’t as some might suggest it is, in terms of goods going from the UK into Northern Ireland, on the other hand there are real issues there in terms of how trade is conducted once the UK left the European Union. ”
The Taoiseach said his sense of the talks between the EU and the UK was that they “could yield some outcomes”, though this might take time. But he believed there was scope within the talks between the UK and the EU to “iron out some of these issues, minimise the difficulties and the bureaucracy attached to all of this.” ....

Waterways Ireland to Commence Ulster Canal €6m Programme Following Shared Ireland Fund Announcement

Ulster Canal - the restoration is being delivered in phases that are detailed below
Waterways Ireland has welcomed the significant funding announcement today by Minister Daragh O Brien TD and Minister of State Noonan TD from the #Shared Island Fund to support the implementation of Phase 2 of the work on the Ulster Canal.
Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal focuses on the restoration of the canal between Clones and Clonfad in County Monaghan, including a canal basin marina and amenity area in Clones.
Acting Chief Executive John Mc Donagh said Waterways Ireland is well advanced in our preparations to enable us to mobilise this project on the Ulster Canal. The Ulster Canal is a significant link in our waterway network and will be complemented by the Ulster Canal Greenway when it is completed. ....
