FBI investigating bomb threat at Newport News-Williamsburg International airport, authorities say

UPDATE (4:35 p.m.):  Allison L. Phillips, Back-Up Public Affairs Officer, FBI Norfolk Field Office released the following statement: “The investigation of a bomb threat made to the Newport News-Williamsburg airport has determined there was no threat to public safety.  Regardless, the FBI and our partners take every potential threat seriously and will take all measures necessary to ensure the safety of the communities we serve. Individuals found responsible for making threats in violation of state or federal laws will be prosecuted.” NEWPORT NEWS  “The FBI is investigating a bomb threat at the Newport News-Williamsburg international airport along with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners,” Allison Phillips, FBI spokesperson, wrote in an email on Thursday. “We do not have additional details at this time, but we will provide updates when they are available.”

(ISU photo) Iowans who aren’t physically active who want to change course and start moving might consider a program called Walk With Ease, headquartered at Iowa State University. Alison Phillips, an ISU psychology professor, says the six-week self-directed program offers strategies to build stamina, manage pain, and to develop a safe stride to limit injuries. “It’s a walking program designed for anyone who is new to exercise,” Phillips says. “It was originally developed for people who have arthritis but it’s been expanded to be really for anyone who would benefit from walking which is pretty much everyone.” Walking is a great way to increase physical activity and improve well-being she says, but it can be painful and difficult for some Iowans, especially those who have been sedentary for a long time or have a chronic health-related condition.

Richard Bartsch Oct. 26, 1940 – Nov. 20, 2020 Oct. 26, 1940 – Nov. 20, 2020 Richard Bartsch dedicated his life to peering into the building blocks of matter and energy that power the stars and savoring fresh air with friends and family beneath the open sky. Over a decades-long career as an electrical engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory, the nation’s premier nuclear research center, he authored or co-authored more than 90 research papers on energy and nuclear fusion and collaborated with scientists in Japan and Russia. He died at home in Sequim, Washington Nov. 20, 2020, surrounded by family after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 80. Known as Rick or Dick, he led a team of physicists experimenting with plasma and pulsed power as part of fusion research at the Controlled Thermonuclear Research Division at Los Alamos.
