A vintage copy of a Sydney real estate guide from 50 years ago shows staggering prices that would make any property investor long for a time machine.
One listing from the 1972 edition of The Realtor posted to Reddit is a three-bedroom Newtown terrace for $10,000 in fair condition that needs a coat of paint
Another listing advertised a redecorated two-bedroom semi at Leichhardt that would have set you back $16,000.
The median house price in Newtown in 2021 is $1.735 million, while in Leichhardt it is $1.815 million.
Vintage ads from a 1972 Sydney real estate guide are enough to make any modern property investor try and build a time machine - one had a three bedroom Newtown terrace for sale for just $10,000

More than 150,000 dwellings are forecast to be built across Sydney in the next four years but more than a quarter of the cityâs suburbs will be untouched by the development.
NSW Department of Planning forecasters estimate between 132,800 and 171,200 new homes will be built in Sydney by 2025, reflecting continued uncertainty due to COVID-19. But no new homes are forecast to be built in 223 Sydney suburbs.
Firstly, the most important thing to do is follow your state health department’s advice.
Fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 were found in the Allambie Heights sewage network in Sydney, via samples taken on April 22 and April 26. Fragments were also detected in the Marrickville sewage network (via a sample taken May 3).
According to NSW Health, people in those areas should monitor for symptoms and “if you have even the mildest of symptoms (even if it appears to be a cold), get tested and self-isolate immediately.”
Viral fragments were also recently detected in Melbourne sewage.
But when it comes to wastewater monitoring for COVID-19, there’s a lot of probability involved. It doesn’t necessarily mean someone in your suburb definitely has COVID.

While Western Australia’s three-day lockdown has now ended, anyone who has been to a venue of concern must continue to isolate according to NSW Health’s advice.
People arriving in NSW from WA must still complete the online declaration form prior to entry and confirm they have not attended a venue of concern as listed on the NSW Health website. Nobody who has attended a close-contact venue at the relevant time should enter NSW.
If you have been in the Perth or Peel areas since 17 April, please check the WA Health website regularly for updates on venues of concern. If you are in NSW and you have attended any of these venues, please immediately self-isolate and call NSW Health on 1800 943 553.
