'On-Money', Late Deliveries, and Hefty Prices Plague Pakistan's Auto Industry

Although the production and sales of new vehicles have been on the rise as of late, evidently so has the menace of ‘On-Money’ and late deliveries. Along with that, the customers have to buy cars that are at least double in price compared to last time when the dollar rate was around Rs. 152.
As per data shared by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer’s Association (PAMA), up till the 9th month of the 2021 fiscal year, the automakers have collectively sold 106,439 units, whereas, during the same period last year, the number of units sold was 86,628.
It bears mentioning here that PAMA’s data only accounts for the production and sales figures achieved by Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC), Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC), Honda Atlas Cars (HCAR), and Hyundai Nishat. The sales figures of new car makers like KIA Lucky Motors, Prince-DFSK, Master-Changan, MG, and Al-Haj Proton are still unknown. ....

Al-Haj Proton has launched its 1.5 litre turbocharged X70 crossover SUV in Pakistan. Its top variant is priced at Rs5.4 million.
The company will initially be selling two imported variants â Executive AWD and Premium FWD at Rs4.9 million and Rs5.4 million, respectively. It will later sell the locally assembled at reduced rates of Rs4.7 million and Rs5 million, respectively. Â
The crossover SUV falls in the same category as Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and MG-HS. ....

Following months of speculations on the part of the auto enthusiasts, Al-Haj Proton has offered relief to the sore eyes by officially launching the X70 SUV in Pakistan. The launch, much like those of other new vehicles in Pakistan, took place via a Facebook video stream on the 18th of December, 2020.
The launch was hosted by famous television stars Ali Ansari and Naveen Waqar, who ushered the viewers through each stage of the launch, explained in detail about the Al-Haj Group, the Malaysian Automaker Proton and its evolution through the years.
