Socializing during COVID-19: New guidelines on family gatherings, social bubbles and outdoor dining in every Bay Area county

What if I m in a social bubble? Does that change anything?
Forming a social bubble is the idea that you re only going to socialize with a fixed group of people. Because no one in the bubble fraternizes outside the group, it allows you to reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus, and to stop the spread of it more quickly if someone in the group is exposed.
While some Bay Area counties, like Alameda and Marin, were allowing social bubbles over the summer, that s all changed.
The state s guidance is more strict than the original social bubble guidance, explained Marin County spokesperson Laine Hendricks. We subscribed to the social bubble model, but again, defer to the state s more stringent guidance. A county is not at liberty to be more lenient than the state with public health protocols. ....

California Doctors Call for Schools Reopening in February

A group of doctors from the state of California is calling for schools in the state to reopen, according to a letter they have signed.
Thirty University of California, San Francisco doctors have signed a letter urging state officials to reopen schools by Feb. 1. They added that prolonged school closures are causing social isolation among children and could tax their mental health and well-being, according to a One America News Network report.
The doctors noted that there is a major increase in emergency visits for mental health issues last year among the youth.
Dr. Jeanne Noble, Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF said that closing schools have real health effects, adding that it is not just saying that they cannot do this to help COVID numbers. ....

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) A group of 30 UCSF medical professionals has published an open letter, calling for California schools to be reopened by February 1.
Dr. Jeanne Noble, the Director of COVID response and Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF, is the lead author.
We don t have much time. Our kids have been out of school for a long time and they are suffering, Noble told ABC7 News.
Her main argument points to data showing distance learning has led to mental health issues, especially to teenagers.
We need to realize that closing schools has real measurable impact. It s not just, we can do this to help COVID numbers. It s harming kids. ....
