The above listed local governments must request disbursement through the federal government’s online portal available here.
Other smaller South Carolina cities and towns, generally with populations of less than 50,000, will likewise receive an allocation from the Fiscal Recovery Funds. Current plans call for the federal government to release an additional $435,125,080 to the State of South Carolina for disbursement to the cities and towns. Today, the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS), in partnership with multiple public and private partners including South Carolina ETV (SCETV), is announcing the completion of a successful first-of-its-kind pilot project to provide residential broadband service for families with K-12 students in Allendale County and establish multiple public Wi-Fi hubs.
A press conference to discuss the project is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the University of Salkehatchie Commons (465 James Brandt Blvd. Allendale, S.C. 29810), and speakers include U.S. Congressman Jim Clyburn and representatives from the SouthernCarolina Regional Alliance, Allendale County Council, the Allendale School District, USC-Salkehatchie, SCETV, and the Office of Regulatory Staff. ....

The South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS), in conjunction with several public and private entities, this week completed a pilot project that provides residential broadband to families with K-12 students and establishes public WiFi hubs in Allendale County. The public-private South Carolina project, known as the Allendale Broadband Pilot Porject, used fixed wireless technology to quickly connect families with K-12 students that previously did not have broadband available to them.
The goal of the pilot project, which began in November 2020, was to see how quickly wireless Internet infrastructure could be deployed using state assets. ....

Pilot project helps expand broadband access in rural Allendale County | Stories

The South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff along with state, local and private-sector partners have launched a broadband project bringing Wi-Fi access to 1,000 homes in 60 days where no access existed before in rural Allendale County.
“We did two things for Allendale County, we provided free public Wi-Fi,” said Jim Stritzinger, Broadband Director of the ORS. “The second thing we did was we installed the first private LTE network in South Carolina.
Through the CARES Act, the ORS was granted $50 Million for Broadband Infrastructure Programs. As part of this expansion of infrastructure, the ORS funded a $393,104 Allendale Broadband Pilot Project to expand broadband access in Allendale County. ....

SC still below pre-COVID employment, but steady improvement in March

Jobs grow in March, but still fall below pre-pandemic numbers
Construction (+1,800 jobs), transportation and utilities (+1,600), and manufacturing (+1,000) were the three industries with the most job gains from February 2021 to March 2021.
Education and health (-600), information (-300) and government (-100) were the only industries to lose jobs. Leisure and hospitality remained flat, and remains the hardest hit industry by the pandemic down 13.8% from February 2020 levels. ....
