ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor OK’d plans for the city’s first marijuana consumption lounge this past week, and it could be the first of over two dozen like it in the city.
“We are going to allow 28,” said City Planner Alexis DiLeo, citing a cap in the city’s regulations.
When City Council decided in October 2019 to give the green light to the recreational marijuana industry in the city, it limited the number of permits for marijuana micro-businesses, dispensaries and consumption centers to 28 each. ....

ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor planning officials are continuing to explore areas of the city to allow downtown-style development outside of downtown.
City Planner Alexis DiLeo proposed four areas to rezone in a report to the Planning Commission Tuesday night, March 9.
That includes parts of Plymouth Road, Washtenaw Avenue, the West Stadium Boulevard and Maple Road area, and the State Street and Eisenhower Parkway area.
The goal is to get some downtown-like streetscapes outside of downtown, DiLeo said.
“I think there was some concern in the community that every corridor was going to be lined with high-rises, but we’re talking about some very discrete areas of the city,” she said. ....

ANN ARBOR, MI Should Ann Arbor establish new “unlimited height” development zones to encourage more dense housing and mixed-used development along transit corridors?
That’s a question city officials are exploring as part of a transit-oriented development zoning initiative, and it was the subject of community discussion and debate this week.

ANN ARBOR, MI A drive-thru COVID-19 testing site will be established outside Briarwood Mall, according to a resolution passed by the Ann Arbor City Council.
The resolution for a special event designation at Briarwood Mall, 100 Briarwood Circle, from Feb. 20, 2021 through April 2021 for drive-thru COVID-19 testing passed unanimously at the Feb. 1 Ann Arbor City Council meeting.
“Simon Properties, owners and managers of the Briarwood Mall, is requesting to host a drive-thru COVID testing site in the area of the mall south of the former Sears wing,” City Planner Alexis DiLeo said in a memo to council. ....
