Manchego Maintains Top Spot In Poll | Standardbred Canada


Maxie Lee Memorial winner Manchego remained the No. 1-ranked horse in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, adding 11 first-place votes and 43 points to her Week One totals.
The six-year-old female trotter received 31 of 35 first-place votes and was five points shy of a perfect 350.
Abuckabett Hanover, undefeated in three starts, and Commodore Barry Invitational champion Nicholas Beach received the remaining first-place tallies and improved their positions in the rankings. Abuckabett Hanover moved from fourth to second while Nicholas Beach went from sixth to fourth.
Nearly 100 points separated Nicholas Beach from No. 5 Its Academic, who was fourth in the Maxie Lee.
Southwind Gendry, who like Abuckabett Hanover won a division of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes, and Betsy Ross Invitational winner Keep Rockin A moved into the top 10. ....

Manchego, a returning Dan Patch Award winner who won the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial in her 2021 debut, is the No. 1-ranked horse in this season’s first Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll. The six-year-old female trotter received 20 of 35 first-place votes.
Six-year-old male pacer This Is The Plan, the MGM Borgata Series champion and the sport’s leading money-winner, was second in the rankings. He was followed by four-year-old male trotter Its Academic, three-year-old male pacer Abuckabett Hanover, and six-year-old female pacer Machnhope in rounding out the top five.
Its Academic counts the Charlie Hill Memorial among his wins while Machnhope was the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series champion. Abuckabett Hanover handed Perfect Sting his first career loss in a division of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes earlier this month. ....

Schedule of events: The Grand Circuit at Freehold on Saturday (April 24) features a single $38,529 Dexter Cup elimination for three-year-old open trotters.
Ten horses entered the Dexter Cup on Wednesday. Two of them, Ambassador Hanover for trainer Åke Svanstedt, and Sunny Crockett, trained by Julie Miller, accepted byes and will advance to next week’s final. As a result, the top six finishers in the elimination will move on to the final.
Last Time: This Is The Plan was able to overcome starting from the outside post eight with a blitz off the gate and then never let anybody get close to him after that in winning Monday night’s (April 19) $514,000 MGM Borgata Pacing Series final at Yonkers Raceway in 1:50.4.
