Stephanie Alvarado is now convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 32 years in prison for the 2019 death of her 5-year-old daughter, the result of her accidentally ingesting methamphetamine while her mother and two others were using. But the cases against the co-defendants in the case, Stephanie’s cousin Daniel Alvarado and friend Bertha Karina Ceballos-Romo, continue to drag on. Ceballos-Romo, 29, hasn’t appeared in court for months and was deported last fall, but the case against her remains active. Daniel Alvarado, 28, appeared virtually before 9th District Judge Denise Lynch on Thursday, who, along with Alvarado’s defense counsel, expressed frustration that the case hasn’t moved to the preliminary hearing stage. ....
