Conversion therapy bylaw goes to final vote at city council in August

Council needed unanimous approval to do a third and final reading of the Prohibited Business Bylaw during its meeting Wednesday, which would have put the bylaw into effect right away. The third and final reading instead is to take place Aug. 11 after a two-week summer break, but will not need unanimous approval by council.

In its annual report tabled Thursday morning, the telecommunication and internet providing Crown announced it brought in a net income of $130.8 million over 2020-2021.

Don Morgan, the minister responsible for all major Crown corporations and the Crown Investments Corporation (CIC), said SaskTel posted strong financial earnings through the pandemic with $1.3 billion in revenue.
More than 18,000 new customers came to SaskTel this past year and its fibre optic network now reaches 60 per cent of all customers in Saskatchewan. The Crown’s wireline network extends to twice as many communities as the next best internet service provider in the province with 463 communities in total on the grid and 345 of those communities with 50 megabytes per second or faster internet. ....

Don Morgan, the minister responsible for SaskEnergy, touted the Crown’s performance over a difficult year and pointed to some of its environmental successes.
“In 2021 it reduced total greenhouse gas emissions from operations by 12,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide,” said Morgan. “That equates to taking 2,800 cars off the road.” ....
