The Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, will turn entirely into a COVID-19 treatment centre in two days, while the district administration will also set up more beds with oxygen supply soon.
The district currently has around 1,000 beds with oxygen supply, according to the District Information Office. The administration aims to have a total of 1,500 beds with oxygen supply ready in the district over the next one week. This number will be increased to 2,000 over the following week. ....

KOCHI: Ernakulam district reported the highest number of Covid cases in a single day on Saturday, with 2,187 persons testing positive. As part of the mass testing drive, over 20,000 Covid tests were conducted in the district. Over the past two days, a total of 36,390 tests have been conducted. 
“We had expected the number of cases to go up, as the number of tests has increased. On Friday also, over 16,000 tests were carried out. On Saturday, 20,180 tests were conducted. Testing is the major weapon in tackling the spread now and we are focused on conducting more tests. Since mass testing is getting good results ....

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Ernakulam soared to hit an all-time high of 2,187 on Saturday.
The active caseload of the district has risen to 11,994. As part of the two-day mass testing drive organised to detect cases and curb the spread of infection, 20,180 samples were collected on Saturday. The district has surpassed its two-day target of 30,900 samples and has tested a total of 36,390 people on Friday and Saturday. ....

Testing for COVID-19 will be ramped up in the next two days, and people who participated in the election process will be tested, District Collector S. Suhas said on Thursday.
A minimum of around 31,000 tests will be done over the next two days, and 10 mobile testing units will be deployed from Friday onwards, the Collector said. Besides those who participated in the polling process, inpatients and outpatients at hospitals, contacts of COVID-19 patients, people with influenza-like illness, people over 45 years who have not taken the vaccine, and people in containment zones and falling within clusters, will be prioritised for testing.
