Growing up in a military family near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, James Hull has long
been interested in history.
His grandfather served in the Army during the Korean War. Hull’s father was a Marine,
and his 19-year-old son is now serving in the Marine Corps, based at Camp Lejeune,
North Carolina. Hull himself spent 12 years in the Marines and Navy Reserves before
being medically retired from the Marine Corps in 2014. He was deployed three times
to Afghanistan, Kuwait and the Horn of Africa between 2006 and 2010, so he knows
something about service members making the ultimate sacrifice. ....

The Office of Veterans and Military Affairs (OVMA) is pleased to announce the following awardees of military-connected student Spring 2020 scholarships. These awards provide meaningful financial assistance to military-connected students as part of the University’s commitment to being the best place for veterans and their families.

John Nipper ‘23
John Nipper is from Fort Myers, Florida and is majoring in comparative religion. Nipper transferred to Syracuse University from Florida Southwestern State College an says his first semester was overwhelmingly positive. While a member of the U.S. Navy from 2011 to 2015, Nipper worked as a cryptologic technician.   Nipper says his ultimate goal is to make a lasting difference. “That is more important to me than anything else. I want to be a positive force for change in our lifetime,” he says. ....

Palm Beacher gives $10M to Villanova University


Yet another Palm Beach resident has come forward with a multi-zeroed gift to Villanova University.
Martin  Marty McGuinn has given $10 million to the university, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, president of Villanova, announced this week.
McGuinn s gift is earmarked for the advancement of faculty research and the support of student veterans.
He is a veteran himself, having served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
The retired chairman and chief executive officer of Mellon Financial Corp. now BNY Mellon graduated from the university s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1964 and from its law school in 1967. ....

Villanova University Receives $10 Million Gift from Martin G. McGuinn, Esq., ’64, ’67 to Advance Faculty Research and Support Student Veterans
In recognition of McGuinn’s lifetime giving, a new residence hall in The Commons on Lancaster Avenue will be named McGuinn Hall
 
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, today announced a $10 million gift from Martin G. McGuinn, Esq., ’64 CLAS, ’67 JD retired chairman and CEO of Mellon Financial Corporation (now BNY Mellon) to advance faculty research and to increase support for veterans attending Villanova. In recognition of McGuinn’s lifetime giving, a building on campus in Villanova’s new residences, known as The Commons, will be named McGuinn Hall. ....
