Alyssa's Law: St. Johns County schools to approve panic alert system

At a school board workshop Tuesday, Michael Strausbaugh, a safety and security specialist with the St. Johns County Schools, outlined two different options to fulfill the requirement.
One is a card-based system embedded with Bluetooth technology. Staffers would wear the cards, which feature a button, on lanyards with their district ID badges. With the push of a button, the user can silently initiate a lockdown from anywhere on campus.
If the user pressed the button eight times, it would indicate an active shooter or other potentially dangerous situation on campus; if pressed three times, it would alert responders to a medical emergency. ....

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Following a survey that was sent to parents of students, seeking input on a dress code, the St. Johns County School District discussed a draft dress code policy during a Tuesday evening workshop.
It’s something that’s been the source for controversy for months in the district and is the subject of a federal investigation. The district received more than 12,000 responses to the nine-question survey (in full at the bottom).
The results show that the vast majority of parents do not want students wearing lingerie, pajamas or clothing that displays profanity or symbols of drugs. There is also a general consensus backing a rule that bans bedroom slippers, says middle school and elementary school students must wear shoes that have a back or strap on the heel and allows high school studen ....
