NORTHAMPTON A local activist group will hold a memorial Tuesday in front of City Hall for George Floyd and others who have lost their lives due to police. Tuesday is the one-year anniversary of Floyd’s death.
The standout, from 4 to 5 p.m., is being organized by Northampton Abolition Now. The group is seeking the creation of a Department of Community Care to take over a number of functions currently handled by police, such as mental health checks, and to cut funding for the police department by 50 percent. It is also seeking that the money cut from the police department last year be transferred to the Department of Community Care and that the
