Alyson Lowell wiped tears from her eyes Wednesday, choking up with emotion as she stood just feet from where her 20-year-old daughter was struck and killed by a driver texting at the wheel nearly three years ago.
The tears did fade for a smile when Lowell was able to press the button on a new traffic light installed in honor of her daughter, Gabriella “Gabby” Lowell, bright lights telling signaling to drivers on Grafton Street to stop for pedestrians. Traffic light, plaque will memorialize young Worcester woman killed by distracted driver
WORCESTER A traffic light and plaque memorializing a young woman who was struck and killed by a distracted driver in 2018 will be dedicated on Wednesday.
Gabriella “Gabby” Victoria Lowell was 20-years-old when she was struck and killed in a crosswalk on Grafton Street near Roosevelt Elementary School in June 2018.
City Officials at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday will dedicate the memorial in a ceremony, highlighting the installation of a traffic light and plaque in Lowell’s memory at 1006 Grafton St.
Mayor Joseph M. Petty, City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr., District 2 City Councilor George Russell and Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. will be joined by Lowell s mother Alyson Lowell at the ceremony. ....

The Cecil Hotel: A history of all the death and violence that has happened


Since the Cecil Hotel opened its doors in 1924 it’s been filled with crime, murder and death. It was dubbed “Hotel Death” and people over the years have thought there were dark forces and spirits there which were behind everything that was happening.
The hotel is located in Skid Row, a neighbourhood in downtown Los Angeles. The complex, at 640 S. Main Street, was built by three hoteliers, William Banks Hanner, Charles L. Dix and Robert H. Schops,
as a destination for business travellers and tourists. But since then, hundreds have died and murderers have checked in to stay.
New Netflix series, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, focuses specifically on the 2013 death of Canadian student Elisa Lam there, but also touches upon some of the other cases. Hotel manager Amy Price, as interviewed in the Netflix series, says there were around 80 deaths there just during the 10-years she served.
