Incumbent Alison Petrone will face candidate Kelly Lynn in a runoff race after no Ward 3 candidate captured a majority of the vote.
Petrone received 40.37% of the vote, while Lynn received 30.22% of the vote. Candidate Sam Talley, who will not go to the runoff, received 29.41% of the vote.
A candidate must receive at least 50 + 1% of the vote to win outright.
Petrone said Tuesday that she was grateful for Talley’s integrity and focus on the issues throughout the campaign, and that she is “confident that he will continue to serve our city in various roles going forward.” ....

Turnout increases for Norman municipal elections

This year’s Norman City Council elections saw an increase in voter turnout compared to previous years for each ward on the ballot.
The city also increased its total voter turnout by about 10%. This year’s election drew 23% of eligible voters to the polls compared to the last time odd-numbered wards were up for election back in 2019, when only 13.9% of eligible voters show out.
Ward 3 had the highest voter turnout of wards in the city with 35% of eligible voters turning out to vote. In 2019, Ward 3 also saw the highest turnout in the city with 24.5% of eligible voters turning out. ....

Norman City Council candidates revealed their positions on police reform, public health policies and other key issues facing their wards during a Transcript-hosted debate Wednesday.
The following is a summary of their answers to several questions.
Ward 1
Brandi Studley’s first priority is transportation, especially a plan to help those who live in a food desert where a bus stop is not close to a grocery store, she said.
While Studley said she has been speaking with Ward 7 Councilor Stephen Holman about the city’s transportation plan, she did not specify a plan to pay for a stop in the area. ....
