I played cricket for more than 30 years. I saw all of the 1946/47 Boxing Day Test, saw Bradman make 100 and watched all the greats that became the ‘‘Invincibles’’ in England in 1948. What heroes for any boy to try to emulate. There was a saying in those days when referring to unsportsmanlike or untoward behaviour as ‘‘not being cricket’’. It was as if the game of cricket was indeed a moral code. ....

GEORGE TOWN: Despite being stuck in Penang due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Myanmar-based British marine engineer Phillip Prescott and his family are glad that they get to celebrate a tropical Christmas.
His wife Jordan, an international school teacher in Myanmar, even delivered their baby boy Gray Prescott Benson in May.
The couple, who came here in March, has been stranded in the country since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced on March 18.

Rebecca Luker, 3-Time Tony-Nominated Performer, Passes Away at 59


The Phantom of the Opera and was most recently seen on Broadway in
Fun Home.
Rebecca Luker, the three-time Tony-nominated actor who possessed a remarkably rich soprano, passed away December 23 following complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Her death was confirmed to The New York Times by her agent. She was 59.
Born April 17, 1961, in Birmingham, Alabama, Ms. Luker made her Broadway debut in 1988 in the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber s

. She also understudied the role of Christine Daaé, eventually taking over the lead part at the Majestic Theatre in 1989. Years later, in a 2016 interview with Playbill, Ms. Luker recalled the first time she had the chance to play the up-and-coming opera star Christine, explaining, The very first time I went on [as Christine] ....
