After spending seven years writing a novel about a coronavirus pandemic, living through a real pandemic has felt like a strange blend of fact and fiction for Saleema Nawaz.
From 2013 to 2019 long before the first case of COVID-19 was detected Nawaz pieced together her novel Songs for the End of the World, which follows a number of characters as they respond to a pandemic eerily similar to the current one. ....

Kamloops author shortlisted for CBC literary prize


A few weeks after winning the Okanagan Short Fiction Contest, a Kamloops author is shortlisted for a CBC literary prize.
The Burgess Shale by Karen Hofman is among short stories by 10 English Canadian authors shortlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize. First prize nets the winner $6,000 while a pair of runners-up will receive $1,000 each.
I think, population-wise, there s good representation from B.C., said Hofman, a member of the TRU English and Modern Languages faculty.
Of the 10 authors, half are from this province, including two others from the Interior - Alix Hawley of Kelowna for Tentcity and D.W. Wilson of Invermere for One More Thing Coming Undone. ....
