NEWS broke last week about the new owner of the former Burton store seeking to restore the building to its former glory. The Cheshire-based developer, who has chosen to remain anonymous at this stage, will also be taking advantage of the Townscape heritage scheme. That should hopefully see the Witton Street building, which had been Burton since 1923, restored to something more like its old self. While the news is positive in terms of investment in the town, when renovation works are completed, the space will need to be occupied by a suitable trader. In recalling his memories of the building, Cllr Sam Naylor said he has such a strong association with it and that he would like to see it return to what it was like during his own youth and teenage years; a tailors, a record shop and a barbers. ....
