ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Biden administration filed a brief Wednesday to the U.S. District Court of Alaska in support of ConocoPhillips’ defense in a case that is challenging its potential drilling access in the state’s National Petroleum Reserve.
The project is said to create about 2,000 high-paying jobs in Alaska and could provide $2.3 billion in revenue for the state, according to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska.
Conservation groups and indigenous groups filed a suit following the approval. Their argument stated that the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service miscalculated the possible harm to wildlife. The groups also believed BLM did not plan accordingly to guarantee the safety of Arctic communities and public health. ....

filed a brief on May 26 with the US District Court for Alaska defending the Willow project, a significant energy development within the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska (NPR-A) on Alaska’s North Slope that has been halted by litigation.
The Biden administration in January announced it would review the final Record of Decision (ROD) for the Willow Master Development Plan, approved in October of 2020 by the Trump administration, for consistency with the administration’s initial executive orders on addressing climate change. The administration has finished that review, as well, finding the ROD legally sufficient. President signs Alaska cruise ship bill

Cruise ships are set to return to Alaska waters in the next few months, thanks to a bill signed into law Monday by President Joseph Biden.
The Alaska Tourism Recovery Act, sponsored by Alaska’s legislative delegation, will enable cruise lines to sail to Alaska coastal communities directly from Seattle, bypassing a current federal requirement.
Federal law requires large cruise ships sailing from the Lower 48 to Alaska to make port stops in Canada. However, Canada has blocked most cruise ships with more than 100 people through Feb. 28, 2022, due to coronavirus concerns. Smaller vessels aren’t impacted by the federal law.
The Alaska delegation applauded the bill’s passing, noting the potential positive impact for the summer tourism season. ....
