Phil the Penguin, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic s mascot, makes an appearance at a Discovery Family Concert. He is expected to appear at the orchestra s May 23 matinee of Peter and the Wolf at the Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre.
With the help of a master composer and a folklore duck, Lisa Harvey-Reed will be swimmingly introducing audiences to her instrument for the first time this weekend.
I remember I didn t know what an oboe was when they told me I was going to play it back in fourth grade. But the duck has sort of nasal qualities, and certainly primitive oboes had nasal qualities. Hopefully, it s evolved to a little more refined sound at this point. But the duck s melody is like it s swimming . and you can picture the duck swimming along in the pond leisurely when you hear it, said Harvey-Reed, ....

The high school and Crowell Rotary Club will be hosting a blood drive at the high school gymnasium on Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m.
To schedule an appointment, call April Baty at (940) 655-4008.
All donors will receive a Summer Story t-shirt and their choice of the following tickets while supplies last:

Talented musicians of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic will keep up their excellent work with a concert this weekend. They’ve also got a concert planned May 23 at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
In fact, the OKCPHIL recently announced shows for the new season, opening this fall.
So keep music in mind as you enjoy all the different ways this fantastic team, led by Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, is enriching Oklahoma City’s cultural scene for all ages.
At 8 p.m. Saturday Mickelthwate will conduct “American Stories – ‘Tis a Gift,” featuring Valerie Watts on flute and Gaye LeBlanc-Germain on harp as they play works by composers Samuel Barber (“Adagio for Strings”); Jack Kilpatrick (“Concerto for Flute”); Hannah Lash (“Concerto for Harp”) and Aaron Copland (“Appalachian Spring”). ....
